Artist Biography：

Luo Dan (b. 1990, Changsha, Hunan, China)，Luo Dan received his Master’s degree in Sculpture from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2016. He currently lives and works in Beijing.Luo Dan’s sculptures are quiet to the point of restraint—free of exaggerated gestures, theatrical contortions, or even overt emotional expression. The inspiration for these figures comes from his study of Tang dynasty court ladies, an aesthetic of “self-sufficiency” that expresses strength not through sharp contours but through rounded, flowing forms.By transforming this classical sensibility into a contemporary sculptural language, Luo Dan imbues his seemingly simple female figures with profound metaphorical resonance in the present context: introverted, unassertive, yet stable and resolute. This is an aesthetic not easily assimilated by the visual culture of our time—it draws from history, and from a more enduring “Eastern spirit.”Sculpture does not speak, yet it often proves more truthful than words. It is precisely this minimal and subtle sense of “blankness” that lends his works a remarkable weight within the context of contemporary art. They do not rely on visual impact, but rather, through an unwavering, slow-settling presence, they quietly establish a relationship with space—and initiate an intimate, deferred dialogue with the viewer.
