Artist Biography：

Liane Chu (b. 1997, Hong Kong, China)，Liane Chu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and New Media from City University of Hong Kong and a Master’s degree in Experimental Art and Technology Art from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.Chu’s work functions both as a personal narrative reflecting her experience with Tourette’s syndrome and as a visual challenge to society’s boundaries between “normal” and “abnormal.” Each brushstroke becomes a form of catharsis, embodying her belief in self-healing and self-expression. Seeking to move beyond binary distinctions, she aims to find hope and stillness amidst the chaos of life.In her surreal landscapes, Chu explores human dependence on nourishment as akin to trees: nutrients sustain us, while harmful substances may lead to decay. At the same time, she foregrounds the pervasive influence of media in urban life, examining how our interactions with electronic technology subtly shape our existence.Working across painting, installation, and sculpture, Chu employs a diverse material vocabulary. Her works have been exhibited internationally in London, New York, and Finland, and are held in collections including the Aurora Museum, Rang Real Estate Group, and Cathay Pacific Airways. She currently lives and works in Shanghai.
