Cao Taiping 曹太平

Artist Biography：

Cao Taiping (b. 1986, Xuzhou, Jiangsu, China).Cao Taiping graduated from the Fourth Studio of the Oil Painting Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2015 with a Master’s degree. He has also studied in Germany. He currently lives and works in Beijing.As a member of the “Fanzheng” (Anyway) art group, Cao upholds the group’s philosophy of employing a poetic painterly language to resist an increasingly theorised and instrumentalised society. He is an artist who persistently embraces a creative mindset of “negating the self” and “negating the previous work,” boldly discarding the polished techniques and habits instilled by academic training. Guided by an instinctive painterly sensibility, he continuously experiments with new materials and modes of expression.In his practice, he continually explores concepts such as “danger,” “boundaries,” and “enclosure.” His early “Straying into the Enclosure” series tends toward figuration, while his subsequent works have shifted toward abstraction.
