Artist Biography：

Maria Kostareva (b. 1989, Tver Region, USSR)，Maria Kostareva is an artist based in Moscow. She holds a Master’s degree in Visual Culture from the Higher School of Economics, Moscow (2019).Her practice is profoundly influenced by Richard Diebenkorn and Francis Bacon. From Diebenkorn, she draws inspiration from his distinctive balance between abstraction and figuration; from Bacon, she adopts an approach to figuration that resists conventional narrative structures.Kostareva depicts everyday figures and scenes—people walking through city streets, or lost in their own thoughts. Each painting reads as a gentle gaze upon a fleeting moment, steeped in emotional resonance, as if whispering something intimate and ineffable to the viewer. Rather than relying on complex storytelling, her work conveys emotional depth through the simplicity and ambiguity of captured instants. She currently lives and works in Moscow, Russia.
